New Chemical Solvent for CO2 Capture
Before I file my fatty alcohol article for ICIS Chemical Business
today...here is an interesting development on carbon capture technology
coming from German companies RWE, BASF and Linde.
The companies claimed that new chemical solvents can increase
efficient separation of carbon dioxide from flue gas by being able to
reduce energy input by 20%. The new solvents also feature superior
oxygen stability, which reduces solvent consumption...

California Fails to Pass 33% Renewable Standard - Will The Terminator Intervene?
Debate was still going on when midnight rolled around.
The California Legislature last night failed to pass SB 722, a bill
that would have required California public utilities to obtain 33
percent of their power from "new renewables," i.e., solar, wind,
geothermal, and biomass, but not large-scale hydroelectric dams. Debate
was proceeding on a companion bill when August 31 turned into September 1
and the session ended.
The failure...

New Jersey Solar Rebate Program Reopened
Hooray
for the Garden State! We are happy to say that as of September 1st, New
Jersey residential solar rebates are back. New Jersey is offering
$0.75 per watt for systems as large as 7.5 kilowatts (kW). Systems
larger than 10 kW are currently not eligible for rebates, and neither

Despite its reputation as a solar hot spot, New Jersey’s solar
rebate program was closed this summer due to state funding...

Solar Stock Rally in One Word: Stealth!
OK, by
“stealth” I really mean I have not paid close enough attention to the
rallies in several solar stocks. 2010 has been a year of true divergence
for solar stocks. Some solar stocks have been in year-to-date rallies
and others have been declining all year. The net result is an awful -25%
year-to-date performance for the Claymore/MAC global Solar Energy Index
ETF (TAN). The winners are even more notable given the general stock
market is...

The Solar R1 Panda Robot from Milad Taleghani
The success of R2-D2 robot in Star Wars has made industrial
designers conceptualize real-life robots that can perform a variety of
tasks to continue the success story. Inspired by the multifunctional
abilities of R2-D2, designer Milad Taleghani has come up with a concept R1 Panda Robot that can function as a camera and as a mobile projector.
The concept robot carries solar panels on its head that help
recharge its onboard battery. If the sun...
